Who we are
Maintain NYC is a civic volunteering app operated by
Sarapis, a nonprofit organization. It helps neighbors find, complete, and document small infrastructure maintenance tasks on their blocks.
What we collect
- Account info — your email address, a password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), and an optional display name and phone number.
- Addresses — addresses you add to your profile (e.g. your home block), used to suggest nearby blocks and tasks.
- Location— your device's location, only when you tap a locate button and grant the browser permission. It is used to sort tasks and blocks by distance. A recent location may be kept in your browser's session storage; we do not track your location in the background.
- Photos — photos you take to document task completions, block assets, and issues. Photos are stored privately; completion photos are visible to you and to administrators who review submissions.
- Activity — task completions, block memberships, event RSVPs, and similar records created by your use of the app.
- Push subscriptions — if you enable notifications, the browser subscription needed to deliver them.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, show ads, or share your information with third parties for marketing. We don't track you across other sites or apps.
Service providers
The app runs on infrastructure that processes data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage.
- Vercel — web hosting.
- Sentry — error monitoring (receives technical details when something breaks, such as browser version and the page involved).
- OpenStreetMap / CARTO — map tiles; Nominatim — address search; Open-Meteo — weather. These services receive your IP address when the app loads maps, searches an address you type, or fetches the forecast.
What other users see
Your display name appears alongside your contributions (e.g. the activity feed and block membership lists). Your email, phone, addresses, and exact location are never shown to other users.
Retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account from your profile page — this removes your profile, completions, photos, memberships, and subscriptions. Aggregate, non-identifying records of completed maintenance (e.g. that a catch basin was cleared) may be retained.
Children
Maintain NYC is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
